The title of the photo-project is a play on that of Christopher Alexander’s 1977 book A Pattern Language: Towns, Buildings, Construction. As in Alexander’s book, it explores built constellations in different scales which arise out of incremental additions and adaptations. Unlike Alexander’s patterns, however, these constellations are perceived to be historically contingent and embrace modernity. The extent to which they are embedded in the structures themselves, or are constructed by the camera, remains, however, open.
